As you correctly stated, the pronouncements they call prophecies are little more than insights a drunk in a rum bar with a brain could come up with. It is also amusing when they claim God reveals to them only initials but not a name, as if he is playing a guessing game with believers. Their so called revelations have become pure entertainment.

It is also noteworthy that although the Old Testament is the basis for many of their pronouncements and its traditions have been brought over into what they preach to be a new dispensation, they blithely ignore certain penalties prescribed for prophets whose prognostications fall flat. Jamaicans continue to be hoodwinked by these charlatans who have absolutely no solutions for the ills that continue to haunt the nation, but have ushered in the Great Deception.

Greater wealth in T&T appears to be fueling crime. As GDP goes up, so too does the death-tole. Wealth provides status. Trinis strive for success – for status – for money. Everyone’s goal is the same, to get up from the bottom; to move from the Beetham to QPW – or to stay in Beetham and build a nice house near a good school. There is no nobler goal that wanting to improve yourself, and your life, and your childrens’ life. I agree that T&T is getting wealthier and you mention a host of promising initiatives. But there is great inequality in the ditribution of wealth in T&T. PPP is at least $14,600 per annum per capita. But 40% of T&T’s population live on under $730 a year. This inequality suggests that legitimate means of wealth attainment are limited. And when legitimate avenues are blocked, illegitimate wealth generation becomes an attractive option and criminal organisations appear. The murder rate in T&T has has outstripped that of South Africa, now 2nd worst in the world, and catching up to Columbia. The murder rate is only one face of the violence, all of which is usually in the course of illegal business.

Above is a cause of crime; to be dealt concurrently with
stopping crime, and eradicating the drug trade – busting the gangs. Triple police pay; train police incessantly – make every young Trini want to grow up to be a highly effective and honest Trini cop!
